They all know that on Labor Day nothing is being served at my house, I have attended every Faith and Labor Picnic since its inception. I encourage them to attend also, and most do attend each year. By doing so, they are supporting a very worthy organization, Workers Interfaith Network. The picnic is its most effective fundraiser each year. WIN is consistently working to improve the conditions in which many low wage workers have to endure in their struggle to provide for themselves and their families. I don't know of a more hardworking group of people than the committed Staff and Volunteers of Workers Interfaith Network.

What great fun my family and I always have at these family oriented picnics, there are activities for children, good food and fellowship, door prizes and even entertainment for the whole family. Don't pass us this opportnunity to serve other while you are being served. I encourage you to come see for yourself and leave the cooking to someone else.

Come out and support WIN, and you will be glad that you did.

Christine BookerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866404942918657226.post-55232755563201654662010-08-11T23:31:08.774-05:002010-08-11T23:31:08.774-05:00Last chance to show off your white summer sandals....Last chance to show off your white summer sandals.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866404942918657226.post-66684619707899406132010-08-11T18:04:09.967-05:002010-08-11T18:04:09.967-05:00The best reason to attend the picnic is to interac...The best reason to attend the picnic is to interact with others who have experienced discrimination in hiring, pay, and job loss. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. All of us ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as one would wish his children to be treated, but this is not the case.

I know the proponents of this law say that the majority approves of this law, but the majority is not always right. Would women or non-whites have the vote if we listen to the majority of the day, would the non-whites have equal rights (and equal access to churches, housing, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, schools, colleges and yes water fountains) if we listen to the majority of the day? We all know the answer, a resounding, NO!

Today we are committed to a worldwide struggle to promote and protect the rights of all who wish to be free. In a time of domestic crisis men of good will and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics and do what is right, not what is just popular with the majority. Some men comprehend discrimination by never have experiencing it in their lives, but the majority will only understand after it happens to them.Benitonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866404942918657226.post-90782448479116902362010-06-11T11:03:59.268-05:002010-06-11T11:03:59.268-05:00One of my first memories of WIN was handing out fl...One of my first memories of WIN was handing out flyers in Fred's parking lot and engaging a few souls in conversation. What drew me in was the simple, faithful idea that people should be paid fairly for the work they do. Watching the workers center grow and impact more and more people in our community is a real joy. Sometimes working for justice can seem like an overwhelming goal - but WIN offers so many easy, manageable ways to make a big difference. Support WIN with your money and/or with your time - either way your support will directly help workers ..... and absolutely come to the Labor Day Picnic. It's lots of fun!
